A. Meeting Eligibiility Requirements

In order for an individual to meet the eligibility requirements for the Federal Skilled Trades Class, he/she must have at least two (2) years of paid full-time work experience (or an equal amount of paid part-time work experience) in a skilled trade within the past five (5) years AND an offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one (1) year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a provincial or territorial body. He/she must meet all job requirements for that skilled trade as set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC).

The NOC was developed by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to be a systematic cataloguing of occupations in the Canadian labour market. The NOC is divided into five (5) bands:

Skill Type 0Management Occupations;
Skill Type Awhich is primarily comprised of professional occupations;
Skill Type Bwhich consists of technical, skilled trades and paraprofessional occupations;
Skill Type Cwhich comprises occupations that mainly consist of intermediate level, clerical or supportive functions;
Skill Type Dwhich consists of elemental sales or service and primary labourer occupations.

He/she must also meet the minimum level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for Speaking and Listening in either English or French and CLB 4 for Reading and Writing in either English or French.

  • Job Requirements

To qualify for a skilled trade, meet the National Occupational Classification (NOC) job requirements, which include five skill types in the Canadian labour market.

  • Language Proficiency

Achieve a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark of 5 for speaking, listening and 4 for reading, writing.

Step 1: Complete the Online Express Entry Profile

Create your Online Express Entry profile to begin the journey towards Canadian permanent residence. Provide detailed information about your:

Candidates who meet the criteria will be placed in a candidate pool.

Step 2: Highest Ranking Candidates Invited to Apply

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) evaluates candidates’ skills, work experience, language ability, and education. Extra points are awarded for job offers supported by LMIA or provincial nominations. Regular draws from the Express Entry pool invite candidates with the highest CRS scores to apply for Permanent Residence, governed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada website instructions.

Swift Processing and Pool Duration

An Invitation to Apply (ITA) allows 60 days to submit an online Permanent Residence application. Citizenship and Immigration Canada processes most applications within six months. Candidates can remain in the pool for up to 12 months, and if not received, they can submit a new profile and re-enter the pool.
